Residential Lead Monitoring Program
In conjunction with the Provincial Office of Drinking Water, the Town of Swan River will begin implementing a Residential Lead Monitoring Program in 2025. The program will include 20 residential locations where water samples will be collected and tested for the amount of lead in the water. The general water chemistry for the Town indicates lead levels are well below the maximum limits in the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines; however, depending on the age of the house internal plumbing could contribute to higher levels of lead.
The town is looking for 20 houses that would like to be part of the 2025 monitoring program. Priority will be given to home-based daycares and houses built prior to 1990 with children younger than 6 years old living at the house. The selected sites will be on a first come first served basis that meet the above criteria. If there are less than 20 households volunteering with the above criteria than the remaining sites will be filled with the first volunteers.
To join the monitoring program please contact the utility clerk at the town of Swan River. She can be reached by phone at 204-734-4586 ext 9, by email at main@townsr.ca, or in person at the town office located at 439 Main Street.
