Essential Appliance Assistance Program
Program Purpose
The Flood Recovery Essential Appliance Assistance Program provides financial assistance to owner-occupied households that experienced flood damage during the 2026 flood event. The program is intended to help residents replace essential household appliances that are necessary to safely occupy their homes.
**This program is open to applicants outside of the Town of Swan River**
Grant Amount
- Up to $500 per household (may be less depending on eligibility criteria and demand)
- One grant per eligible property
- Funding available until the program budget is exhausted
Eligible Items
The grant may be applied toward the purchase of:
- Hot Water Tank
- Furnace
- Clothes Washer or Dryer
- Freezer or Refrigerator
- Electrical Panels
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Own and occupy the home as their primary residence.
- Have sustained flood damage from the June/July 2026 flood.
- Be replacing an essential appliance that was damaged or destroyed by flooding.
- Submit a completed application with required documentation.
The following properties are not eligible:
- Rental properties
- Seasonal properties
- Commercial properties
- Vacant properties
Priority Consideration
If funding requests exceed available funding, applications will be prioritized using a scoring matrix.
Priority Categories
Highest Priority
- Seniors (65+)
- Households with annual income below $50,000
- Persons with disabilities
- Families with dependent children
- Homes that are currently uninhabitable because of the damaged appliance
Secondary Priority
- Households with annual income below $80,000
- Applicants without insurance coverage
- Applicants who have exhausted other financial assistance
Required Documentation
Applicants should provide:
✔ Completed application
✔ Quote or invoice for replacement appliance
✔ Photos of damaged appliance
✔ Proof of income (if applying under low-income priority)
- CRA Notice of Assessment
- GIS/OAS confirmation
- Employment Income Assistance documentation
- Other acceptable proof
